If your yard is overgrown or if it’s time to tackle that landscaping project you’re putting off, a skip bin makes it easy to get rid of the waste!
Landscaping can generate huge amounts of rubbish. Grass clippings, tree branches, old timbers – you name it. These probably won’t fit in a standard wheelie bin, so hiring a skip is the best solution!
The only question is which size skip is the best for garden waste?
In this article, we’ll recommend some skip sizes for landscaping, and help you choose the right bin for your project.
We recommend hiring a 4m3 skip bin for big gardening projects around the home. If you live on acreage or a larger property, then a 6m3 or 10m3 skip bin may be the better option.
Here’s what a 4m3 skip looks like in action. It holds about 16 wheelie bins of waste. That’s more than enough for a small gardening project on the average size property.
You might need a bigger skip if you’re dealing with things like fallen trees, replacing your turf or overhauling your landscaping.
If you’re only tackling gardening or landscaping work, consider hiring a green waste skip bin.
Green waste skips accept most types of organic waste. The waste is turned into garden mulch rather than going into landfill. That’s good news for the environment, and it means your garden waste gets a second life.
Here are some of the things you should think about when deciding which size skip to order:
Order a slightly larger skip than you think you’ll need. Skips can’t be filled above the rim for safety reasons. If you have waste sticking out of the skip, we won’t be able to take the skip away when you’re finished gardening.
Alternatively, consider ordering two smaller skips one after the other. That gives you extra time to complete your project and it means you won’t have to worry about overfilling the bin.
For example, you could order one 4m3 green waste skip and one 6m3 skip. All organic waste goes into the green skip, while the rest of the waste – things like rocks, soil and treated timber – goes into the standard skip.
Green waste skip bins are perfect for landscaping and gardening! They accept most types of organic waste, including:
Super Skips works with a recycling partner that turns green waste into garden mulch. For that reason, our green waste skips can’t accept things like treated timber, soil and stones. These items can go in our regular skips.
The size of the skip you order depends on the size of your property and the type of gardening work you’re doing. Here’s the skip sizes we recommend for gardening and landscaping projects:
Property Size | Type of Project | Recommend Skip Size |
Small to Medium | Gardening | 4m3 |
Landscaping | 6m3 | |
Medium to Large | Gardening | 6m3 |
Landscaping | 10m3 | |
Large | Gardening | 6m3 |
Landscaping | 12m3 | |
Acreage | Gardening | 10m3 |
Landscaping | 12m3 |
